Aprile Millo

Hailed as one of the greatest Verdi sopranos of her generation, Aprile Millo has captivated audiences across the globe with her artistry, which has been described as “a voice not so much heard as experienced.” Throughout her illustrious career, she has performed in iconic venues such as the Metropolitan Opera, Teatro alla Scala, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, and major houses in Vienna, Rome, Barcelona, San Francisco, and Rio de Janeiro. She also has collaborated with legendary conductors and singers, including Herbert von Karajan, Riccardo Muti, James Levine, Renata Tebaldi, Zinka Milanov, and Beverly Sills. These remarkable partnerships have cemented her status as one of the opera world’s most revered figures. As founder of The Operavision Doro and a devoted mentor, Millo is passionate about preserving the timeless tradition of Belcanto and nurturing the next generation of opera talent. The Opera Studio is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from the true master of bel canto and gain insights from her unparalleled experience. Jeffrey Carl

Jeffrey Carl, a Toronto born Canadian and British Baritenor, has appeared in lead roles in many of the major opera houses in over 15 countries. He has shared the stage with the likes of Luciano Pavarotti, Aprile Millo, Rosalind Plowright, Julia Migenes, and many others. He has worked with conductors like Sir Richard Bonynge, Sir Georg Solti and Sir Antonio Pappano, and has recorded for both EMI and TELARC. His more than 45 roles have encompassed Mozart through Stravinsky, some of which have been broadcast live on RAI1, BBC and CBC. Although known primarily for his Verdi and Puccini repertoire, in particular Rigoletto, Il Trovatore and Tosca, he was also invited by Harry Somers to create new roles in La Serinette in Canada and by Havergal Brian in The Cenci, in England. His extensive oratorio work includes Carmina Burana, Beethoven 9th and Mahler 8th as well as more intimate song recitals. To date he has sung in 19 languages and has also translated Italian libretti into English for CDs. As an accredited voiceover artist, he records regularly in four languages and is also a recognized film and television actor both here and in the US and Europe.

Daniel Hoyem-Cavazza

We are thrilled to announce that internationally acclaimed Vienna-based conductor Daniel Hoyem-Cavazza will take part in the Opera Studio. Renowned for his exceptional artistry and versatility, Maestro Hoyem-Cavazza has graced some of the world’s most prestigious stages and collaborated with leading orchestras across the globe. A graduate of the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, he has built an impressive career spanning decades. As a former Music Director of the Vienna Chamber Opera, he conducted numerous highly praised productions and worked with winners of the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition. Career highlights include: - Debut at the Volksoper Vienna (The Magic Flute) and performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 at the Musikverein’s Golden Hall in Vienna. - Appearances at the Vienna Opera Festival (Così fan tutte). - Productions of Tosca and Rigoletto at Austria’s St. Margarethen Opera Festival. - Collaborations with prestigious ensembles such as the Sarajevo Philharmonic, Orchestra of the National Theatre in Prague, and the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. Maestro Hoyem-Cavazza’s extraordinary talent and passion for creating meaningful connections with musicians and audiences make him an invaluable addition to our project.

Anton Yeretsky

Anton Yeretsky is a conductor celebrated for his expertise in opera productions and symphony concerts who brings over two decades of experience to the stage. He has performed in prestigious venues such as the Wiener Konzerthaus, Musikverein in Vienna, and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Concert Hall, Shanghai Oriental Art Centre and has earned acclaim for his innovative programming and inspiring leadership. As music director of Toronto International Opera Studio, Anton mentors the next generation of artists while delivering performances that captivate audiences and musicians alike. His work in opera highlights his ability to bring dramatic storytelling to life, while his symphonic leadership demonstrates a mastery of both classical and contemporary repertoire. Anton’s dynamic stage presence and passion for excellence make every performance a transformative experience. Through his dedication to fostering cultural connection and accessibility, he continues to bring classical music to diverse audiences, creating meaningful artistic moments that resonate beyond the concert hall.

Anna Borodina

We are delighted to announce that the acclaimed stage director Anna Borodina will bring her exceptional talent and creativity to our upcoming opera production. With extensive international experience and a reputation for innovative and compelling stagings, Anna has collaborated with some of the most prestigious institutions in the world of musical theatre. Career highlights include: - Directing acclaimed productions of Le Nozze di Figaro (2022), Cosi fan tutte (2024), Lucia di Lammermoor (2018), and Die Fledermaus (2019). - Innovative stagings such as Donizetti’s Rita, blending acrobatics and physical theatre, and the aria cycle People and Dolls. - Collaborations with international festivals, including the Vienna Summer Music Festival and prominent European opera houses. Anna is celebrated for her ability to seamlessly combine classical tradition with modern theatrical techniques, including video design and physical theatre. Her visionary approach captivates audiences, creating productions that are both deeply emotional and visually stunning.
